How to Kick off Your Wedding Planning Without a Hitch

Hey Friend!

I hear you’re a little stuck on where to get started planning this big day of yours. Well, I’m coming to your rescue in 3, 2, 1.

Planning a wedding doesn’t have to be stressful, it simply takes organisation and minimal procrastination. I thought to share a little of my experience, tips and tricks for keeping our wedding (and event) planning stress to an absolute minimum will hopefully keep you and your gorgeous partner in crime in check.

The key is to keep it simple. Avoid planning books or 24-page checklists if you’re already feeling overwhelmed. Make an online folder or get yourself a ring binder or clear file to save your quotes and communications, and invest in a trusty notebook - They truly are all you need. Get the big things out of the way, and you will make a far more enjoyable experience for yourselves. If you do really want to make something special of the planning process, I recommend the Together Journal x An Organised Life Wedding Planner.

Planning your big day can turn into a nightmare if you don’t sort the big-ticket items first, especially if you are wanting to wed in peak season. The main vendors that I encourage my couples to book pronto are:

  • Venue (and rainy day plan)

  • Celebrant

  • Band, DJ or Singers

  • Photographer

  • Videographer

  • Guest Transport

  • Accommodation

  • Hair and Makeup Artists

  • Planner and Stylist (if opting for these)

  • Hire Items

  • Florals

  • Cake and Sweet Treats

  • Catering and Beverage

When it comes to your dress, if it's not taken off the rack, you could be waiting between six to eight months to arrive, and possibly longer due to COVID. Do your research and try to get a good feel for the styles that highlight the goddess you are, or opt for a local designer. Technology is incredible in this age of pandemic and so much is being done online.

For some, getting Save the Dates out well ahead of a normal schedule is beneficial. These can be sent out digitally or via post but I do recommend sending them if your wedding fits any of these reasons:

  • You are hosting a wedding out of town, or have guests travelling.

  • You have chosen a wedding date that coincides with other large events on within the same city/town/location.

  • You are hosting a wedding during peak season. The chances are so will others so give your guests advanced notice.

  • You simply need to buy yourself some time to iron out finer details.

Once all this is out of the way, you can take a wee break and breathe again. The planning stages can come easier to some than others and it’s my biggest passion to help people bring their Weddings and celebrations together and in the most fun, stress free way possible which is why I share my knowledge. While pinning and saving posts from Instagram are great, always keep in mind that you are pulling together the day of your dreams; The day should be a testament to you, your style and all of the things you love. Those things are what is going to keep your wedding day timeless in your eyes as opposed to opting for what’s on trend or what your friends are doing. HERE is a great blog post to help you discover exactly what you want to get out of your wedding day.

Below are some of my favourite blog sites bursting with inspiration for weddings of all budgets:
