Down at the lake just behind the Queenstown gardens, we skipped rocks, took bites of cheese straight from a block and were having the best time. As we were skipping stones, Gavin told me he found a good one, I turned around and he was on one knee! I said yes, and then we had to recreate the moment for a photo as I needed that perfect Instagram post.
Shane and I met when at 16. We were together for three years before going our own separate ways - I went and lived in Australia for two years and worked in Europe on super yachts for another two, but we always kept in contact. When we both moved back to New Zealand we picked up where we left off.
We’re coming into our own as each wedding season progresses and as with many elements post-pandemic, ring exchanges are going out the window in favour of more practicable or sentimental gestures.
The question begs, does this tradition resonate with you?
Throughout the years, we’ve picked up a few tips, tricks and tidbits of epic advice to help you special people absolutely radiate from the inside out, hand in hand with celebrating the milestones of life. Luckily for you, we think sharing is caring so read on and get glowing
If there is one thing any epic South Island Wedding requires, it’s a whole lot of lists. Fortunately for you, we’re going to take a little deep-dive into what documents you’re going to need to plan your wedding day.
Giving new life, or a secondary purpose to any element of your wedding day (or special occasion) is always going to offer a feel-good factor as you make smarter decisions during the planning process to achieve maximum impact on your day. Let’s take a look at the options when it comes to preserving your wedding flowers.
We’ve had a solid 365 days of build-up to my eldest girl’s fourth birthday and let me tell you - this little lady knows the ins and outs of exactly what a birthday entails. Coming up with unique themes for children’s parties is no easy feat but as a planner, I love the challenge. As soon as potion-making requests were made on the daily came through a month or so ago, I knew exactly what to do!
Our November day was magical. It had been raining throughout the week and everyone was warning us that it couldn't happen due to rain, but we took a leap of faith, planned our wedding in seven days and everything fell in place.
Nic and I slowly got to know each other over the first term of school. Nic would always sit next to me at morning tea, next to me at the pub, and would often ask for a ride to town after school on a Friday. Unbeknown to me at the time, Nic was actually just making excuses to spend time with me.
We met at a friend's house party and after eight months, went on our first date. Fast forward a year and we were getting married at a courthouse in the U.K. A few days later, we followed our nuptials with a “white trash” themed backyard wedding with our friends. Everyone dressed up and it was such a fun day. By the time we had wedding round three in New Zealand, we had been married for four years.
Oh, how she shines! Sophie Milson’s latest collab with Nelson-based Wild & White sees us swooning over their curated collection of stunningly gorgeous ready-to-wear gowns.
You really don’t need to look much further past your own back door when it comes to getting hitched in our stunning piece of God’s own, and Keely & Henry made no exception to that rule - They only had to look to Henry’s parents’ farm to secure the venue of their dreams.

Vanessa and Nick
Nick and I met at university in Auckland just over ten years ago while I was studying abroad from Canada. We formed an instant connection and ended up doing long distance, moving from Auckland to Toronto and when in Christchurch together you would often find us exploring our city by foot and bike.
Premi and Sam
Sam and I first met at Primary school but we weren’t really friends! I remember Sam picking on me, but this was the age where boys thought girls had cooties, so he is forgiven. The age of eight was a confusing time for us all, Sam did test the waters and took me behind a curtain at a birthday party and pulled his pants down. I was shocked so said thanks and left.
Luckily for us, we rekindled five years ago at a local bar in town, Baretta.
Katie and Scott
Scott and I met four years ago. A special mutual friend suggested that we should meet, so Scott asked me out. A Sunday lunch turned into a five-hour date and the rest is history as they say. Scott is a natural talker and I am a born listener, it’s a winning combination.
With our original date being 11th April and having at least 250 guests coming from all over the world, unfortunately, COVID kicked us in the gut and we had to postpone 2 weeks before the wedding.
Lucy wasn’t at all phased and literally said '“no worries, let’s find another date and make this Wedding 2.0”, which is exactly what she did.
A huge weight lifted off my shoulders when I passed the co-ordination onto Lucy. My inbox became a lot lighter and I was able to enjoy all of the small details that I know I would have missed if I was under the pump sorting out the logistics. We trusted Lucy with our wedding and she brought our vision to life.
I love sending my couples over to her directory and blog when they ask for advice or recommendations for vendors, as all the vendors are such a high standard, and a great representation of her business, and she has many great articles to help people out on her blog.
Christchurch Weddings is more than a vendor platform, it is a selective but very inclusive, community. Lucy works hard to create a welcoming environment and goes beyond a typical directory by marketing your brand alongside her own on all social media pages.
I am so glad I joined the Christchurch Weddings Directory. One-third of my bookings come from the Directory and having Lucy as a sounding board and being able to connect with the other vendors has been so valuable.
Lucy from Christchurch Weddings is exceptional. We have worked together for two years now and have had many happy clients due to this relationship.
As a vendor, being a part of the Christchurch Weddings Directory is invaluable. Lucy provides not only an amazing directory where potential clients can view your business but also guidance and support in many other shapes and forms.
Christchurch Weddings is such a great tool, and Lucy should be so proud of everything she has accomplished so far. We recommend our couples jump on the website + socials
Huge thanks to Lucy for creating Christchurch Weddings. Her passion and dedication to bring industry leaders together now means planning a wedding in Canterbury can be done from one platform of inspiration.
If you are in the planning stages of your wedding - Lucy’s knowledge of vendors will be incredibly valuable to you. We already had our vendors locked in but when spoken to, they had nothing but good things to say about Lucy which shows she has a huge directory of vendors, but she knows them all well and has excellent relationships with them.
