Brooke and Nic

Our Love Story

We met back in 2018 on Nic’s first day as a beginning teacher. I was in my second year and had been tasked with the job of meeting and greeting the new staff. Meeting Nic for the first time I thought he was 10 years older than he was because of his wardrobe choices on his first day of teaching! We slowly got to know each other over the first term of school. Nic would always sit next to me at morning tea, next to me at the pub, and would often ask for a ride to town after school on a Friday. Unbeknown to me at the time, Nic was actually just making excuses to spend time with me. I invited Nic to my birthday party later in the year and the rest is history.

Our Proposal

It was the last day of our Summer holidays and Nic had organised a date day. We went out for brunch and a walk around Scorching Bay in Wellington. Nic kept asking “where my favourite bay was” and looking back I now know why. He played Taylor Swift’s Love Story which ended up being the song I walked down the aisle to. I thought he was trying to embarrass me, but he got down on one knee and popped the question.

Our Wedding Planning

Having all of our favourite people together to celebrate with was key to use when we thought about celebrating our marriage. It was important to us that everyone knew how special they had made our day. Our priorities were good company, food, drinks and dancing!

I organised the majority of the wedding which caused a few heated discussions in the process. We tried to do things on somewhat of a budget, which meant we had to organise a lot. Our families were absolute lifesavers with the set-up. My Mum was great at styling decor on the day. Nic sorted out the alcohol. I made sure we were as organised as possible in the lead-up so we could relax during the day. This was the best as we both felt really calm and present on the day and took the view that if something wasn’t to go to plan, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

Special Moments

I absolutely loved the time away taking photos with our wedding party. It was quality time spent having a few drinks before the big party started. Nic and I also got some time to ourselves which was really special.

Our Advice

Don’t try to rush away the day and try to be present in every different part of the day- from getting ready, the car ride to the venue, walking down the aisle, photos and party time. The day just goes so fast. I loved the slow-paced morning with my bridesmaids and family when we were getting ready.

Stand Out Vendors

Every single vendor was just amazing. My hair and makeup artists were dream ladies and had the best personalities. But honestly, from our florist & photographer to caterers and bar staff- everyone was just so helpful and lovely. We felt lucky to have such a good team!
