Our Love Story

I was on my fifth day in Invercargill, New Zealand as an SIT student. It was Orientation week and we met at a Toga Party. It felt like soulmates meeting and was absolutely love at first sight.

We started dating and began to understand each other's culture, lifestyles, hobbies, values and morals. Our two different worlds were brought together and seven years we decided to tie the knot. Our proposal was mutual, but I was the one being vocal first with the “I love you’s”.

Our Wedding Planning

I can see why the process of getting married could have been stressful, but to me, the important part was having everything flow without a need to rush or resist anything.

Planning our day was enjoyable. We decided on what we wanted and then made a checklist to tick off as we progressed. Some things we could’ve done with having more time up our sleeves to book, like videographer, venue, celebrant, and catering but thankfully we got all sorted!

We wanted everything to be special and personal to us, right down to our guest list of 20 super close friends and loved ones.

I wanted my dress to be unique, wild and bold and Brides by Donna Rae finished the final alterations on it just two days out.

My bouquet was a mix of dry and greens, with some peacock feathers, roses, leaves and all done by my lovely Mother in Law the night before.

I got my Florist Janine super organised with the look I wanted with all wildflowers, toitoi and candles.

Our Wedding Day

Our November day was magical. It had been raining throughout the week and everyone was warning us that it couldn't happen due to rain, but we took a leap of faith, planned our wedding in seven days and everything fell in place.

I spent the morning getting my hair done by Bronze Connection. Wendy and her stylist arrived at the venue and made me feel like a Queen as my hair was styled and champagne toasts flew around.

My favourite moments of the day were during our ceremony. The first was when my husband looked at me coming to him down the aisle, and again when we put the rings on each other's fingers. I will always remember the expression on his face looking so fulfilled and joyful. We then served mango cheesecake by Charlie's Kitchen just after the ring exchange as a sweet sharing.

Our close friends and loved ones were all in attendance and had organised games on short notice spreading the love and happy vibes to make our day. My parents were in India, but with me virtually which was very emotional but made me so happy and I couldn’t have asked for more from the universe.

Later on, we hosted dinner at Bombay Palace and everyone enjoyed the tandoori starters and the main course, followed by our cake which was two tiers of By Anna rustic perfection in choco lava flavour.

Our Advice

Our advice to couples would be to enjoy your day for what it is, rather than trying to make it perfect as per the plan. Just loosen up and get lost in the atmosphere and happiness - Like the butterfly effect.
